About Zara Nasibyan
Zara Nasibyan is a visual artist and multidisciplinary creator born in Baku, Azerbaijan. Her family was refugee, having fled during the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. She was raised in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Then in 2011 she moved to Asia, a turning point that marked the beginning of her artistic journey.
Photography was her first passion. Zara documented the lives of minority communities in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, using street photography to tell their stories. Her evocative work earned her recognition in various international competitions.
In 2017, she shifted to commercial photography, traveling extensively and immersing herself in diverse cultures, traditions, and ways of life. These experiences ignited her curiosity about global societal challenges. She began exploring the impact of mass culture—media, brands, social media, and celebrity influence—on human behavior and values. Grappling with questions about free will and globalism, Zara found that photography could no longer fully express her evolving perspective.
In 2020, Zara turned to painting. Experimenting with different techniques and mediums, she embraced pop art as her primary form of expression. She viewed pop art as a vibrant, universal language, uniquely suited to exploring mass culture and its global impact. Her Singaporean exhibition, Behind the Scenes of Sweet Dreams, delved into these themes.
Relocating to Bordeaux, France, in 2022. She made another pop art exhibition showcasing her works that explored the same themes.
In 2024 Zara expanded her creative horizons. Alongside her paintings, she began crafting eco-friendly creations, including home décor, jewelry, and tote bags made mostly from recycled materials. Each piece reflects her commitment to sustainability and individuality, blending artistry with mindful living.
Today, Zara continues to create from her studio in Bordeaux, connecting art, sustainability, and the shared human experience through her diverse works.
