Heart of Asia

Heart of Asia

Humbly presenting to you my collection, “Heart of Asia.” This collection comprises a series of documentary photographs I took while travelling through Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. While exploring remote corners of the countries, I visited numerous tiny villages populated by national minorities, ethnic groups, and tribal communities. For many generations, natives lived in harmony with mother nature, mainly cultivating the land. Local people used to have their way of life, customs and traditions, rites and rituals, which are nearly lost, same as territories belonging to them. Incrementally, the “Great Civilization” wipes off the sacral gist of their cultural heritage by turning settlement after settlement into a tourist attraction. One should realize that it is none other than the last gasp of the passing world. And yet, the rare opportunity to glimpse the vanishing image of slow and simple life, to look into the faces of people who have been living so differently and had very different values, is still there. Though marginalized, they retain the warmth of their hearts and sincere radiant smiles. There is no resentment or hatred in them. I am infinitely happy that I had the chance to discover this terra incognita where children drink the rain and play games with no toys.
